Hôtel Métropole Geneva: the palace facing the Jardin Anglais
On Quai Général-Guisan, on the left bank, the Métropole has faced the Jardin Anglais and the Jet d'eau since 1854. A rooftop terrace, the Old Town six minutes away, a rating of 4.4.

The verdict
The Métropole is the palace of the left bank, and that is its great advantage: the Old Town is six minutes on foot, the Rues-Basses at the foot of the hotel, the Jardin Anglais and the Jet d'eau opposite. It has welcomed travellers since 1854.
Its Google rating of 4.4 from nearly a thousand reviews is slightly behind the right-bank palaces.
On site
The rooftop terrace is the house's asset, with an open view over the harbour in fine weather. The Eaux-Vives quays and their beaches can be reached on foot.
Cornavin station is further away, a short quarter of an hour on foot or a few tram stops.
Our advice
It is the best palace for a heritage stay centred on the Old Town and Rue du Rhône. When we checked, it no longer offered any rooms on Google Hotels for the fair's public weekend.
