Geneva's palace and grand hotels: which one suits your stay?
In Geneva, the right palace hotel is not the one with the most stars, it is the one that matches your week: the harbour on foot, the calm of a lakeside park, or the road to Palexpo. The great houses compared, starting prices recorded in 2026, and what the headline price does not include.

Geneva has a handful of palace and grand hotels that rank among the most famous in Europe, most of them lined up along Quai du Mont-Blanc, facing the harbour. Their prestige is comparable; their use, much less so.
The real criterion is geography. A palace on the quay puts the Old Town, Rue du Rhône and the station within walking distance, but not Palexpo. A lakeside hotel in Bellevue offers calm and a park, at the cost of a taxi for every dinner. Here are the great addresses compared, with starting prices recorded in 2026.
The comparison at a glance
| Hotel | Area | Who it suits | Late November 2026 | Fair, 9 April 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beau-Rivage | Quai du Mont-Blanc | the historic palace, the harbour on foot | 790 CHF | Fully booked |
| Four Seasons des Bergues | Quai des Bergues, on the Rhône | the oldest and most central | 1 245 CHF | Fully booked |
| Ritz-Carlton Hôtel de la Paix | Quai du Mont-Blanc | an 1865 palace with a contemporary style | 819 CHF | Fully booked |
| Hôtel d'Angleterre | Quai du Mont-Blanc | an intimate 5-star | 642 CHF | Fully booked |
| Mandarin Oriental | right bank, on the Rhône | meetings and central restaurants | 569 CHF | 1 153 CHF |
| Hôtel Président | Quai Wilson | pool, views, suites | 501 CHF | Fully booked |
| Métropole | left bank, facing the Jardin Anglais | the Old Town on foot | 429 CHF | Fully booked |
| InterContinental | Petit-Saconnex, Nations | business, access to Palexpo | 294 CHF | 763 CHF |
| La Réserve | Bellevue, by the lake | spa, park, destination stay | 568 CHF | Fully booked |
Lowest price shown on Google Hotels for a double room and two adults, checked on 23 October 2026 for the night of 27 November 2026 and for the night of 9 April 2027, the first public day of Watches and Wonders. "Fully booked" means no rooms were offered any more. These are benchmarks, not quotes.
Other sources showed other starting rates in 2026, such as 1 067 CHF at the Beau-Rivage: the price changes with every date. One industry source puts historic palaces in a range of 580 to 740 CHF, and contemporary 5-stars at 720 to 880 CHF.

This is the address of the historic palaces: the Beau-Rivage, the Four Seasons and other great houses, facing the lake and the Jet d'eau. The Old Town is 5 to 15 minutes' walk away, the watch boutiques of Rue du Rhône just across the bridge, Cornavin station a few streets away.
The Beau-Rivage is the most obvious choice for the historic palace experience, right on the quay. Its trade-off is the price, to which breakfast, drinks and services are readily added. An old ITU rate sheet gave doubles at CHF 280 to 470: it has no value whatsoever today.
The catch: the quay is busy. Traffic, taxis, deliveries, terraces and harbour events can be heard from lake-view rooms; those at the back are quieter, without the view. And a lake view is never automatic: it depends on the category and the floor.

Opened in 1834 on the Quai des Bergues, the Hôtel des Bergues is the oldest of Geneva's grand hotels, now a Four Seasons. It looks out over Île Rousseau and the Pont des Bergues, where the Rhône leaves the lake.
It is the most central of the palaces: Rue du Rhône and its watchmakers just across the bridge, the Old Town about ten minutes away. It was also the most expensive in our late-November check, at 1 245 CHF a night.
The trade-off: the view is of the Rhône and Île Rousseau, not the Jet d'eau, which is better seen from the Quai du Mont-Blanc. For the fair's public weekend, it was already fully booked on Google Hotels.

The Mandarin Oriental and the central right bank
On the Rhône, on the right bank, the Mandarin Oriental is the most practical for a busy programme: meetings, restaurants, trains, and a simple connection to the airport and Palexpo. The Old Town is 5 to 20 minutes' walk away depending on the route.
The catch: it is central but not directly on the lake. Check the room and the view before paying a premium for a lakeside palace fantasy. The area is urban, with trams and shopping streets within earshot.

The President Wilson and its CHF 80,000 suite
On Quai Wilson, west of the centre, the President Wilson plays on views, its terrace and its suites. Cornavin and the shopping centre are 15 to 25 minutes' walk away, and access to Palexpo is relatively easy by taxi.
Its Royal Penthouse Suite is quoted at more than CHF 80,000 a night by a specialist source, a figure often repeated for the hotel as a whole: it says nothing about the price of an ordinary room. The quay is busy, and lake-view rooms can hear traffic and sirens.
The hotel is now called Hôtel Président, and booking sites often still use the old name. We found a room at 501 CHF a night in late November; for the fair's public weekend, it was fully booked.

The Métropole: the left-bank palace
Facing the Jardin Anglais on Quai Général-Guisan, the Métropole has welcomed travellers since 1854. It is the historic grand hotel of the left bank, and the closest to the Old Town, six minutes on foot.
Its rooftop terrace looks over the harbour and the Jet d'eau in fine weather. We found it at 429 CHF a night in late November, one of the gentlest starting prices among the central palaces.
The trade-off: Cornavin station is a quarter of an hour's walk away, and Palexpo takes a tram and then a train. It is the palace for a heritage stay, not for a week at the fair.

The InterContinental: the business palace, on the Palexpo side
In Petit-Saconnex, near the Palais des Nations, the InterContinental targets business guests who want quiet, space and a fast link to the airport and Palexpo. It is the most logical palace for anyone spending their days at the watch fair, and the best placed for the Palais des Nations and the nearby museums described in things to do in Geneva.
The catch: it is not the centre. Allow 25 to 40 minutes on foot to the lake, much less by tram (the tram lines), and an institutional district that empties after office hours. The official photos mostly show renovated spaces and higher categories, not the view from a standard room.

In Bellevue, outside the centre, La Réserve is a destination hotel: spa, park, lakeshore, guaranteed quiet. You choose it for the stay itself, not for walking from one meeting to the next.
The catch: every outing into town is a 15 to 30-minute journey by taxi or public transport depending on traffic, and evenings are less spontaneous. Recorded starting prices are around 950 CHF, CHF 985 according to another source.

La Réserve Genève★ 4,7 · 1,900 reviews
A quiet stay with a spa and a park by the lake: La Réserve, in Bellevue, is made for those who come to Geneva to unwind rather than rush around.

On Route de Pré-Bois, near the airport, the Mövenpick Hotel & Casino follows a different logic: an early flight, a car, days concentrated at Palexpo. The centre is 15 to 25 minutes away by public transport or taxi, and the airport surroundings do not invite strolling. Check the actual shuttle times if you arrive late; the other options from the terminal are in from Geneva Airport to the city centre.
It is not a palace, and it is no longer in our comparison: it is the logistical alternative, found at 184 CHF a night over the fair's public weekend, when the palaces on the quay were full.

What does a night in a palace really cost?
The headline price is only the start. Add:
- the tourist tax, 4.25 CHF per person per night, whatever the category (one commercial source mentions CHF 3.50 to 4.50 depending on category; the cantonal scale is what counts);
- breakfast, estimated at 50 to 75 CHF per person by an industry source;
- parking, almost always extra;
- the minibar, room service and late check-out, sometimes with service charges;
- the card pre-authorisation, the amount of which is not published consistently.
So compare the final total for the exact number of people and nights. In return, even a palace hotel gives you the Geneva Transport Card, which makes trams, buses, trains within the canton and Mouettes free, as explained in which pass for visiting Geneva.
And during Watches and Wonders?
Fair week, from 5 to 11 April 2027, changes everything. Our working budget puts palace hotels at CHF 900 to 2,500 a night, and the best rooms go to the brands and retailers. No central palace is "next to" the fair: Palexpo is near the airport.
Our booking timeline recommends having booked before the end of November to keep a choice of houses and cancellable terms, then booking without delay between mid-January and mid-February. These dates are field benchmarks, not statistics: hotels never say when their inventory is full. The details are in where to stay during Watches and Wonders, and the fair in our Watches and Wonders 2027 guide.

Around the palace hotels
From Quai du Mont-Blanc, everything is on foot: the harbour promenade and the Jet d'eau, the Bains des Pâquis five minutes away, the Old Town across the bridge, and the Rue du Rhône boutiques described in watchmaking in Geneva. Cruises leave from the same quay (boats on Lake Geneva).
To step outside luxury, our selection of hotels in Geneva by budget and our guide to the districts cover every price range. By car, parking in Geneva explains why the hotel car park is worth its price.
